The midterm exam is worth 25% of the final grade. Students must attain an overall passing grade on the weighted average of the two exams in the course in order to obtain a clear pass (C or better). The midterm exam will focus on the topics covered in the first part of the course (before midterm): Java fundamentals primitive types, Strings, console I/O decisions, repetition program development, documentation classes, objects, methods and ADTs introduction to software engineering This material is covered in Chapters 1 - 5. The midterm exam will be composed of a mix of questions: Part 1 of the exam is made up of 20 multiple choice or true/false questions on a mix of topics (worth 1% each to a maximum of 20%). Part 2 of the exam is composed of a number of short-answer and predict-the-output questions worth a total of 20%. Part 3 of the exam involves a number of questions requiring the location and correction of programming errors. Part 3 is worth a total of 20% of the midterm exam. Part 4 is a programming question worth 40% of the exam. You are required to write a complete Java program. Note - comments are NOT required in programs written for an exam unless requested. For Parts 2, 3 and 4 of the exam, marks will be awarded for partially correct answers. EXAM AND ASSIGNMENT RESULTS --------------------------- The results of the online part of the midterm exam are available on C4 immediately after the close of the exam. All results are entered into Gradebook asap. The instructor will see each student individually to return written exam papers and bring grades up-to-date. Individual oral interviews take place in the two class periods after the midterm exam. These interviews will take place in the Computer Science Office (opposite Room 1). The remaining students will work in Room 1 on timed, individual assignments. NOTE: Assessed labs which are submitted from outside of the college campus are not graded. Your attendance, conduct and progress are monitored throughout the course.
