C4

In the first two weeks of class, 
students will be introduced to the C4 online learning system.

After week 2, students are expected to be familiar
with the operation of C4, being able to:

message the instructor
message other course participants
view resource material
view the Assignments page (for due dates)
submit assignment files































Reading Assignments

Text book

Reading assignments for each week are posted on the course schedule.
Students will be tested on the content of reading assignments.

Summary powerpoint presentations for each week are posted on the course schedule.

Other resources material and assignment instructions are posted on the C4 system.






























































Course Materials

All of the example program files and other resource material for this course
are available on the CDROM which is supplied with the textbook. 
  
Additional materials are available on the course schedule 
or from the C4 system.































Software

Microsoft Visual Basic version 6.0 (Working Model)
will be used to complete the assignments in this course.

The CDROM that accompanies the textbook contains
all the examples and case studies from the book,
as well as Microsoft's Visual Basic 6.0 Working Model.

For your convenience, Visual Basic is installed 
on all student computers in the classrooms and labs at Coquitlam College.

Plagiarism

To pass off another's ideas, writings or programs as one's own
is considered a form of cheating (plagiarism). 
However, if documented credit is given where it is due,
students may use any resource they wish to complete assignments.






























Quiz and Exam Rules

Academic honesty is mandatory
No talking or communication
No books or electronic equipment allowed
No dictionaries or calculators allowed
Cell phones must be switched off
All your belongings - bags, coats, etc should be placed at the front of the room
You should have with you only a pen 






























Evaluation

Quizzes, assessed labs, and exams are individual work only.  
Assignment labs involve teamwork as well as/or individual work. 
Students may be tested in a quiz, exam or assessed lab 
on the content of reading assignments or lab assignments.






























Quizzes

Quizzes are worth a total of 10% of the final grade.
Quizzes are in the form of multiple choice, true/false,
fill-in-the-blank, short answer questions,
or any combination of these.

Quiz dates and topics are shown on the C4 system.






























Assignments

Every week there are assignment labs. 
Two of the assignment labs are timed and assessed.
The timed and assessed labs have a combined score of 10%. 






























Team Assignments

Some assignments involve team work. 
Students will be assigned to teams by the instructor.


Rules for Teams: Each team must work independently of the other teams. 
Each team member is expected to contribute an equal amount of time
to the total workload of each assignment. 
Students will be tested on the content of team assignments.



























































Submitting Assignment Files

From Week 1 to Week 13, all chapter summary powerpoints and reading assignments are posted on the course schedule.

Programming assignments are posted on the C4 (Coquitlam College Course Central) online system,
and are submitted to the C4 system. Late assignment submission must be discussed with the instructor before the assignment due date.
No assignments are accepted by email. 



























































Assignment Scoring

A marking scheme based on the assignment specification (instructions) 
will be used to score your assessed labs. 
Assessed labs which are not submitted to the C4 system by the given deadline 
will be recorded as a zero score.

Scores are entered into the Online Gradebook as soon as possible after the assignment deadline.



























































Participation

You are expected to monitor the C4 system
for new assignments and to participate in large and small group discussions and activities via the C4 system. 

Participation means being actively involved and interested, giving
due respect to fellow students and instructor.

Documented evidence of participation takes the form of C4 activity 
such as saved work and quiz completion.






























Exams

Midterm Exam Final Exam
Exams are composed of a mixture of:
multiple choice, true/false, 
predict-the-output and written questions.

Exams are closed book.  

The Midterm exam is worth 30% and the Final Exam is worth 40%.  
Students must attain an overall passing grade
on the weighted average of exams
in the course in order to obtain a clear pass (C or better).

REMINDER

This course is challenging. 
As well as weekly lab assignments, there are weekly reading assignments 
and other activities.
