Instructions for installing SSH software

Introduction

 

 

SSH allows secure file transfer from any computer on the Internet to a remote web server.

 

 

 

Instructions

 

Click on the following link to download the SSH installation file to the computer you will be using to develop your PHP and HTML form files: SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe

 

 

 

 

 

Click on the Open link in the window above.

 

 

Click on OK button in the window above.

 

After a few splash screens, you will see the following screen:

 

 

 

 

Click on the Next button in the window above.

 

 

 

 

Click on the Yes button in the window above.

 

 

 

Click on the Next button in the window above

to accept the default.

 

 

Click on the Next button in the window above

to accept the default.

 

In the Select Components screen, just click on the Next button to accept the default.

 

 

Click on the Next button in the window above

to complete the installation. When the installation is complete, you will see the following screen:

 

 

Click the Finish button.

 

If you accepted all the defaults as instructed above, you can start the SSH program by clicking on the Start button on your desktop, as follows:

 

Start -> All Programs -> SSH Secure Shell -> Secure File Transfer Client

 

You will then see the running SSH program window as follows:

 

 

 

Click on the Profiles button in the screen above to get the following screen:

 

 

In the textbox, type your user name, exactly as given to you by your instructor. Usernames are case sensitive. This example assumes the user name student1. You need to ask the instructor for your own user name.

 

 

Then click on the Add to Profiles button.

 

You will be returned to this screen:

 

 

We now need to edit the profile to set it up for file transfer to the remote server...

 

Click on the Profiles button, then click on Edit Profiles...

 

If you are student1, you will then click on student1

in the left hand window:

 

 

and in the textboxes, type in what's shown in the red text below.

 

Host name: 96.48.39.33 (if there is no connection, email the instructor for the latest host name.)

User name: student1

 

Note: the screen below shows an old host name. Use the host name

and user name shown in the lines above.

 

NOTE: The username and host name must match the ones given to you by your instructor.

 

 

Then click on the OK button, and you will be returned to the following screen:

 

 

You are now set up ready to transfer files securely from your home computer to the remote web server.
